Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our turntables
  • Retrolife offers a range of record player accessories and replacement parts, including replacement styluses, cartridges, drive belts, power cables, counterweights, RCA audio cables, dust covers, hinges, platter mats, record cleaning tools, and other turntable accessories.

  • The stylus is the needle that follows the grooves of a vinyl record and transmits vibrations to the cartridge. The cartridge converts those vibrations into an audio signal.

A replacement stylus may fit an existing compatible cartridge, while replacing the entire cartridge involves a different compatibility check. Confirm which component you need before purchasing.

  • Stylus lifespan depends on the stylus type, playing time, record condition, and maintenance. Replace it when it shows signs of wear or damage, or when recommended by the manufacturer.

If you notice unusual distortion, skipping, or changes in sound, inspect the record and stylus according to your user manual. These symptoms can have several causes and do not automatically mean the stylus needs replacing.

  • The replacement process depends on the cartridge and stylus design.

    1. Turn off the record player and disconnect the power if appropriate.
    2. Follow the instructions for your specific stylus and cartridge.
    3. Remove the old stylus carefully without forcing or bending the cartridge assembly.
    4. Install the compatible replacement as instructed.
    5. Check that it is seated securely before playing a record.

If you are unsure about the installation, consult your user manual or contact Retrolife support.

  • A worn, stretched, damaged, or incorrectly installed belt may contribute to slow startup, inconsistent speed, or a platter that does not rotate as expected.

Before replacing the belt, check that it is installed correctly and that the platter is seated properly. If the problem continues, confirm the correct replacement belt for your model.

  • The process varies by turntable model. In general:

    1. Turn off and unplug the record player.
    2. Remove the platter according to the user manual.
    3. Check the belt path and remove the old belt.
    4. Install the compatible replacement belt according to the model's instructions.
    5. Refit the platter and check that the belt is correctly positioned before testing playback.

Do not force the platter or dismantle internal components. If you are unsure about the belt size or installation, contact our support team.

  • A counterweight helps balance the tonearm and set the appropriate tracking force on turntables designed with an adjustable counterweight.

Not every Retrolife record player has an adjustable counterweight, and replacement counterweights are not universally interchangeable. Confirm compatibility with your model before ordering, and follow the user manual for installation and adjustment.
