Getting Started with Your ICE1
New to turntables? Start here. This guide walks you through unpacking, assembly, speaker connection, and your first record.
Keep the power disconnected during assembly. Leave the stylus guard on whenever you are not adjusting or using the stylus.
The stylus is the small needle that touches the record. It is delicate, so never touch its tip or allow it to drop onto the platter.
What you’ll do: Unpack the turntable safely and check for missing or damaged parts.
- Clear a clean, stable surface with enough room to lay out the turntable and accessories. Put down a soft cloth to help protect the finish.
- Open the packaging carefully. Avoid cutting deeply into the box, as cables or components may sit beneath the packaging.
- Lift the turntable by its base. Do not lift it by the tonearm, platter spindle, or dust cover.
- Lay out the accessories and compare them with the parts list in your ICE1 user manual.
- Check for protective packaging around the tonearm and other moving parts. Remove only the transport packaging identified in the manual. Do not pull on wires or remove unfamiliar components.
- Leave the stylus guard in place and keep the tonearm secured in its rest while you assemble the other parts.
- Save the box and protective inserts for future storage or transport.
You’re ready to continue when: The turntable is sitting securely, the accessories have been checked, and there is no visible damage.
If something looks wrong: Stop and contact support with a photo of the part or packaging. Do not power on a turntable that appears damaged.
What you’ll do: Give your turntable a stable, level place to play.
- Choose a firm shelf, cabinet, or table that does not rock when gently touched.
- Make sure the surface is level. If available, use a small spirit level to check it. Do not place the level on the tonearm or stylus.
- Keep the turntable away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and moisture.
- Leave room behind it for cables and enough space above it to open the dust cover.
- Where possible, place your speakers on a separate surface. Speaker vibration can travel through furniture and interfere with playback.
- Route cables so they do not pull on the turntable or hang where someone could catch them.
You’re ready to continue when: The turntable sits flat, the furniture feels stable, and the dust cover has room to open.
Avoid: Soft cushions, uneven furniture, or placing a speaker directly against the turntable.
What you’ll do: Fit the rotating platter and the belt that drives it.
The platter is the round platform that holds your record. The drive belt transfers movement from the motor to the platter.
- Make sure the power adapter is disconnected.
- Keep the tonearm secured in its rest and the stylus guard attached.
- Identify the platter, drive belt, centre spindle, and motor pulley using the diagram in your ICE1 manual.
- Hold the belt with clean, dry hands. Keep it away from oil, cleaning products, and sharp objects.
- Fit the belt along the route shown in the ICE1 diagram. Check that it lies flat rather than twisted.
- Lower the platter onto the centre spindle in the order shown in the manual. Keep it level and do not force it down.
- Check that the platter sits evenly and that no packaging or cable is trapped underneath.
- Complete any belt-position check shown in the manual before connecting power.
You’re ready to continue when: The platter is seated evenly and the belt follows the correct path without twists.
If the belt slips off: Disconnect power and check its position against the installation diagram. Do not stretch it harder or add lubricant.
What you’ll do: Set the pressure that keeps the stylus seated correctly in the record groove.
The counterweight is the weight at the back of the tonearm. Tracking force is the downward pressure of the stylus on the record. Too little or too much pressure can cause playback problems, so it must match the installed cartridge.
- Keep the power disconnected.
- Identify the counterweight and its fitting direction in your ICE1 manual.
- Keep the tonearm supported and secured while attaching the counterweight.
- Fit the counterweight as shown in the manual. Do not force it if it does not fit smoothly.
- Before releasing the tonearm, read the complete balancing procedure. Know how you will support it and prevent the stylus from touching the platter.
- Follow the ICE1 procedure to balance the tonearm and set the tracking-force scale.
- Set the tracking force to the value specified for the cartridge fitted to your ICE1.
- Return the tonearm to its rest and secure it once the adjustment is complete.
You’re ready to continue when: The balancing procedure is complete and the tracking force matches the recommendation for your installed cartridge.
If you are unsure: Do not play a record yet. Contact support for help with the adjustment.
Important: Do not choose a tracking force based on bass response or copy a setting from another turntable. If your cartridge has been replaced, its required tracking force may differ.
What you’ll do: Fit the cover without putting pressure on the tonearm or hinges.
- Keep the tonearm secured in its rest.
- Identify the dust-cover hinges and their matching attachment points.
- Hold the cover with both hands, supporting it evenly on each side.
- Align the attachment points as shown in your ICE1 manual.
- Fit the cover gently. Do not force one side into place while the other side is misaligned.
- Open and close it slowly to check that it moves smoothly and does not catch on a cable or nearby object.
You’re ready to continue when: The cover is securely attached and moves without catching or forcing.
Avoid: Carrying the turntable by its dust cover or leaving objects on top of it.
Your ICE1 has a built-in phono preamp, but it does not have a built-in speaker amplifier. For wired playback, use powered speakers or an amplifier connected to passive speakers.
The PHONO/LINE switch is on the back of the turntable. Choose the setting based on the input you are connecting to, not simply the type of speaker you own.
Option A: Connect to Powered Speakers
Powered speakers have their own amplifier and usually need their own power connection.
- Switch off the turntable and speakers before connecting the cables.
- Find the PHONO/LINE switch on the back of your ICE1 and set it to LINE.
- Connect the turntable’s RCA output to the speakers’ LINE IN, AUX IN, or another compatible line-level input. Match the red plug to the right channel and the white plug to the left channel.
- If your speakers have a 3.5 mm AUX input instead of RCA inputs, use a suitable RCA-to-3.5 mm cable.
- Select the matching input on your speakers.
- Turn the speaker volume down, then switch on your equipment.
- Play a record and gradually increase the volume.
Check your setup: With LINE selected, the ICE1’s built-in phono preamp prepares the signal for a normal line-level input.
If your powered speakers have a dedicated PHONO input, use Option B instead.
Option B: Connect to an Amplifier or Receiver with a PHONO Input
Use this connection when your amplifier or receiver has a compatible PHONO input.
- Switch off the turntable and amplifier or receiver.
- Set the switch on the back of your ICE1 to PHONO.
- Connect the turntable’s RCA output to the compatible PHONO input. Match red to right and white to left.
- Select PHONO as the source on your amplifier or receiver.
- Turn the listening volume down, then switch on the equipment.
- Play a record and slowly increase the volume.
Check your setup: PHONO bypasses the ICE1’s built-in phono preamp so the receiving equipment can perform that function.
Do not use LINE output with a PHONO input. Applying phono amplification twice can make the sound excessively loud or distorted.
Option C: Connect to an Amplifier or Receiver without a PHONO Input
Use this connection with a compatible AUX, CD, LINE IN, or other line-level input.
- Switch off both devices.
- Set the switch on the back of your ICE1 to LINE.
- Connect the RCA cable from the turntable to the selected line-level input.
- Select that input on your amplifier or receiver.
- Lower the volume before switching on and testing playback.
Check your setup: You do not need a separate phono preamp for this connection because the ICE1 already has one built in.
Do not connect passive speakers directly to the ICE1. Passive speakers need a separate speaker amplifier.
Option D: Connect to a Bluetooth Speaker or Headphones
- Turn on your Bluetooth speaker or headphones and place them in pairing mode using their own instructions.
- If they are already connected to your phone or another device, disconnect that connection before pairing.
- Turn on the ICE1 and use the Bluetooth switch on the back to enable Bluetooth.
- Keep the two devices close together while they attempt to connect.
- The ICE1 does not have a Bluetooth indicator light. Check your speaker or headphones for a connection sound or status indication, if available.
- Play a record at low volume to check whether the connection has been established.
If there is no sound: Check that your speaker or headphones are still in pairing mode and are not reconnecting to another device. Switch Bluetooth off and on again, then retry the pairing process.
Follow these steps after completing the tonearm setup and connecting your speakers.
- Turn your speaker or amplifier volume down before starting.
- Place a clean record on the platter, with the centre hole over the spindle. If the record has a large centre hole, fit the 45 RPM adapter first.
- Set the speed selector to 33 for a 33⅓ RPM record, or 45 for a 45 RPM record. Check the record label if you are unsure. Record size alone does not tell you the correct speed.
- Carefully remove the stylus guard. Hold the guard itself, without touching the needle or the thin arm supporting it.
- Release the tonearm from its rest, then raise the cueing lever. This lifts the stylus so you can move it safely above the record.
- Hold the small finger lift beside the cartridge and gently move the raised tonearm over the record’s outer starting groove, just inside the edge. The platter will start rotating as you move the tonearm into the playing position. There is no separate start button to press.
- Slowly lower the cueing lever. Let it lower the stylus gently onto the record. Do not push the tonearm down by hand.
- Once the music starts, gradually increase the volume to a comfortable level.
You’re ready to listen when: The record rotates steadily and the music plays without repeated skipping or obvious distortion.
If something goes wrong: If the stylus slides across the record, repeatedly skips, or the sound is severely distorted, raise the cueing lever immediately and check your setup before trying again.
Never move the tonearm sideways while the stylus is touching the record.
What you’ll do: Lift the stylus safely and leave the turntable ready for next time.
- Turn the speaker volume down.
- Raise the cueing lever to lift the stylus clear of the record.
- Move the tonearm gently back above its rest.
- Lower it onto the rest and secure it.
- Stop the platter using the playback control and wait until it has completely stopped.
- Lift the record by its edges and return it to its sleeve.
- Switch off the equipment when you have finished listening.
- Refit the stylus guard carefully when appropriate, and close the dust cover.

ICE1 Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What should I check before setting up my ICE1?
Carefully unpack the turntable and compare the included parts with the list in your user manual. Check the base, platter, tonearm, dust cover, and accessories for visible damage. Keep the power disconnected during assembly, and save the packaging in case you need to transport the turntable later.
If a part is missing or damaged, contact support before continuing.
Q: Where should I place my turntable?
Choose a firm, level surface away from moisture, direct sunlight, and heat sources. Leave enough room for the dust cover to open and for the cables behind the turntable.
Where possible, place your speakers on a separate surface. Speaker vibration can travel through furniture and interfere with playback.
Q: What do I need to complete before playing my first record?
Install the platter and belt, complete the tonearm balancing and tracking-force setup, and connect your audio equipment. Remove any transport packaging identified in the manual and carefully remove the stylus guard before playing.
Do not skip the tonearm setup. The stylus needs the correct pressure to track the record properly.
Q: Do I need to buy speakers or an amplifier?
For sound through an audio system, connect the ICE1 to compatible powered speakers, a Bluetooth speaker or headphones, or an amplifier connected to passive speakers.
The ICE1 has a built-in phono preamp, but it does not have a speaker power amplifier. Passive speakers cannot be driven directly by its RCA output.
Q: How do I start playing a record?
Place the record on the platter and select the speed shown on its label. Raise the cueing lever, then gently move the tonearm over the starting groove near the record’s outer edge. The platter starts rotating as the tonearm moves into the playing position.
Lower the cueing lever and let the stylus settle onto the record. There is no separate start button to press.
Q: Does the ICE1 stop automatically when a record finishes?
Yes. The ICE1 automatically stops platter rotation at the end of a record.
The tonearm does not lift or return automatically. After the platter stops, use the cueing lever to raise the stylus, gently return the tonearm to its rest, and secure it.
Q: Is the ICE1 fully automatic?
No. You position the tonearm and lower the stylus to start playback. At the end of the record, the platter stops automatically, but you must lift the tonearm and return it to its rest yourself.
Automatic stop is not the same as automatic tonearm return.
Q: What should I do after the platter stops automatically?
- Turn the listening volume down.
- Raise the cueing lever to lift the stylus clear of the record.
- Use the finger lift to move the tonearm gently back to its rest.
- Lower the tonearm onto the rest and secure it.
- Remove the record once the platter has stopped completely.
Never drag the stylus sideways across the record or push the tonearm back while the stylus is touching it.
Q: The music has stopped. How do I know whether auto-stop has activated?
Look at the record and platter first.
If they have stopped rotating at the end of the record, the automatic-stop function has operated.
If they are still rotating but there is no sound, check your speaker connection, selected audio input, and Bluetooth connection instead. Loss of sound alone does not mean the turntable has stopped.
Q: Why does the platter stop before the music finishes?
First check whether the problem happens on one record or several. Records can have different groove layouts, so a problem limited to one side of one record needs a different investigation from repeated stopping across your collection.
- Note where it stops: near the outer edge, halfway through, or close to the centre.
- Try a different record with the correct speed selected.
- Check that the turntable is level and stable.
- Confirm that the tonearm setup and tracking force are correct for the installed cartridge.
- Check that no packaging, cable, or nearby object is obstructing the tonearm.
- Observe whether the stylus repeatedly skips or stays in the same groove before the platter stops.
If several records stop early, discontinue testing and contact support. Do not move the cartridge or change tracking force simply to bypass the stopping point.
Q: Why does the platter keep spinning after the record finishes?
Do not leave the stylus running in the end groove while troubleshooting. Raise it with the cueing lever and return the tonearm to its rest.
Then check the following:
- Did the stylus actually reach the end of the recorded side, or was there a quiet passage before more music?
- Was the stylus repeating the same groove instead of progressing toward the centre?
- Does the same behaviour happen with another record?
Record-end layouts vary, and the exact stopping behaviour should be assessed across more than one record. If the ICE1 repeatedly fails to stop at the end of different records, contact support with a video.
Do not open the housing or attempt to adjust the internal stopping mechanism.
Q: Why does the platter stop at the same point on one particular record?
Check whether the stylus is catching or repeating a groove at that location. Dust, record damage, or playback setup may prevent it from progressing normally.
Clean the record using an appropriate record-cleaning method, check the stylus, and test a different record.
If other records play normally, tell support that the problem is limited to that record and side. This alone does not establish an auto-stop fault.
Q: Why does the platter stop in the middle of different records?
Stopping well before the end of several records should not automatically be treated as normal auto-stop operation.
- Check that the supplied power adapter is firmly connected at both ends.
- Check whether power to other equipment is also interrupted.
- Disconnect power before inspecting the belt installation.
- Check for visible belt displacement or anything obstructing the platter.
- Note whether the platter stops suddenly or slows down before stopping.
- Stop using the turntable if the problem repeats.
Contact support with these observations. A power, drive, or control issue may need investigation; the symptom alone does not identify which part requires repair.
Q: The platter stopped and will not start again. What should I check?
- Raise the cueing lever and return the tonearm to its rest.
- Switch off the turntable.
- Check the supplied power adapter and its connections.
- With power disconnected, inspect the belt position against the ICE1 installation guide.
- Switch the turntable back on and select the correct speed.
- With the stylus raised, move the tonearm toward the record’s starting position to check whether rotation begins.
If it still does not rotate, stop testing and contact support. Do not force the platter to turn or repeatedly move the tonearm beyond its normal playing range.
Q: Can I move the tonearm toward the centre to test auto-stop?
Do not drag the stylus across a record or force the tonearm inward to trigger the mechanism.
For a safe functional check, play a record normally and observe what happens at the end of the side. If support needs a specific diagnostic test, follow the ICE1 instructions they provide.
Q: Can I adjust or repair the auto-stop mechanism myself?
Limit home troubleshooting to external checks: power connections, belt installation, a level surface, correct tonearm setup, and testing different records.
Do not open the turntable, bend tonearm components, apply lubricant to the stopping mechanism, or adjust internal switches, sensors, or screws. The correct repair depends on the confirmed fault and the ICE1’s internal design.
Contact support before purchasing replacement parts or arranging a repair.
Q: When should I stop troubleshooting and request service?
Request service if:
- The platter repeatedly stops before the music ends on several records.
- It repeatedly fails to stop after different records finish.
- It will not restart after the external checks above.
- You hear grinding, scraping, or other unusual mechanical noise.
- The tonearm catches, resists normal movement, or appears damaged.
If there is a burning smell, excessive heat, or a damaged power cable, switch off and unplug the equipment immediately. Do not continue testing.
Q: What should I send support for an auto-stop problem?
Please include your order number and a short video showing the platter and tonearm when the problem occurs.
Also tell us:
- Whether it affects one record or several.
- Whether it happens at the beginning, middle, or end of the side.
- Whether the platter stops suddenly or gradually slows down.
- Whether the stylus skips or repeats a groove first.
- Whether the turntable starts again after returning the tonearm to its rest.
- Which troubleshooting steps you have completed.
Keep the original video speed and avoid moving the tonearm during the recording unless support asks you to.
Q: What is tracking force, and why does it matter?
Tracking force is the downward pressure of the stylus on the record. Too little pressure can cause mistracking or skipping, while too much can increase wear.
Use the recommended setting for the cartridge installed on your ICE1. Do not copy a value from another turntable or adjust it simply to change the bass.
Q: Can I turn the numbered ring to set the tracking force?
The numbered ring is a reference scale, not a direct measurement of stylus pressure. On counterweights with an independently rotating scale ring, the tonearm must first be balanced and the scale correctly zeroed.
Follow the ICE1 balancing procedure before setting the recommended force. If you are unsure, ask support for help rather than guessing.
Q: Why does the tonearm drift or the stylus skip?
Possible causes include an uneven surface, incorrect tracking force, vibration, a dirty or damaged record, or a stylus problem.
Check that the turntable is level and the record is clean, then confirm the tonearm setup. Try another record to see whether the problem occurs on one record or several. Do not add coins or other objects to the cartridge.
Q: What should I do if the stylus slides across the record?
Raise the cueing lever immediately. Do not keep trying to play the record.
Check that the stylus guard has been removed, the stylus is correctly seated, and the tracking force has been set properly. If the stylus or its thin supporting cantilever looks bent or damaged, stop using it and contact support.
Q: Can I replace the stylus?
Use only a replacement confirmed as compatible with your installed cartridge. Before ordering, send support a clear photo of the cartridge and stylus so the correct part can be identified.
Switch off the turntable and secure the tonearm before replacement. Do not pull on the needle or cantilever.
Q: Should I select 33 or 45 RPM?
Use the speed printed on the record label. Select 33 for a 33⅓ RPM record and 45 for a 45 RPM record.
Do not choose speed by record size alone. Some 12-inch records play at 45 RPM.
Q: When do I need the 45 RPM adapter?
Use the adapter for records with a large centre hole. Place it over the spindle before placing the record.
A record that plays at 45 RPM but has a standard small centre hole does not need the adapter.
Q: Why does my record sound too fast or too slow?
Start by checking the speed printed on the record label.
Select 33 for a 33⅓ RPM record or 45 for a 45 RPM record. Do not choose speed by record size alone. Some 12-inch records play at 45 RPM.
If the correct speed is selected but the music still sounds wrong, try another record. If several records sound consistently too fast or too slow, measure the platter speed before making an adjustment.
Q: What is the correct RPM reading?
The target speeds are:
- 33⅓ RPM, usually displayed as approximately 33.33 RPM.
- 45 RPM, displayed as 45.00 RPM.
A phone app provides an estimate, not a factory-calibrated measurement. Do not keep adjusting the turntable to chase every change in the final decimal place.
Q: Which apps can I use to check the speed?
For an initial check, you can use:
- iPhone: RPM – Turntable Speed Accuracy.
- Android: RPM Speed & Wow.
Follow the app’s instructions for device compatibility, calibration, and placement. The Android app requires a phone with a gyroscope.
These are third-party tools. Features, pricing, and availability may change.
Q: How do I measure the speed with a phone app?
Prepare the turntable:
- Place the ICE1 on a firm, level surface.
- Turn your speaker volume down.
- Remove the record. Do not place your phone directly on a valuable record.
- Keep the stylus raised and protected throughout the test.
- Make sure the phone will not touch the tonearm, cartridge, or dust cover.
Position the phone:
- Open the app and complete any calibration it requires.
- With the platter stopped, place the phone flat and securely, as close to the centre as the app recommends.
- Do not balance the phone on the spindle or use an unstable improvised support.
- If the phone cannot sit securely, do not use this method. Ask support about an alternative speed check.
Run the test:
- Select 33 on the ICE1.
- With the cueing lever raised, move the tonearm toward the playing position to start rotation. Keep the stylus clear of the phone and platter.
- Keep your hands clear and allow the speed to settle.
- Complete the app’s measurement cycle and save the average reading.
- Stop the platter completely before touching or repositioning the phone.
- Repeat the test two or three times using the same placement.
- Repeat at 45 RPM if you also need to check that speed.
If the platter stops automatically during the test, do not hold the tonearm against resistance or disable anything inside the turntable. Contact support for the appropriate test procedure.
Q: Can a phone app give an incorrect reading?
Yes. The phone’s sensors, calibration, position, and added weight can affect the result. Placing a phone unevenly on the platter can also affect the test.
Use repeated readings under the same conditions rather than relying on one screenshot. If different phones give different results, do not recalibrate the motor repeatedly to match each one.
A phone app is useful for an initial check, but it does not establish whether the turntable meets its factory speed-stability specification.
Q: How do I fine-tune the speed using the rear black knob?
Use the black fine-adjustment knob on the back of the ICE1 for small corrections after confirming the correct speed setting.
- Take a baseline speed measurement and save it.
- Note or photograph the knob’s starting position.
- Stop the platter before reaching behind the turntable.
- Turn the knob a very small amount in one direction. Do not make a large turn.
- Restart rotation and repeat the measurement under the same conditions.
- Compare the new average reading with the original reading.
- If it moved closer to the target, continue with another small adjustment in the same direction.
- If it moved farther from the target, turn the knob back toward its starting position, then make a small adjustment in the opposite direction.
- Allow the reading to settle after each change. Do not turn the knob continuously while chasing the display.
- Check both 33⅓ and 45 RPM when you have finished, then test normal playback with a record.
The target is a consistent reading close to the selected speed, not a permanently motionless final decimal.
Do not force the knob beyond its normal travel. If small adjustments do not produce a useful correction, contact support.
Q: Why should I check both speeds after an adjustment?
Do not assume that adjusting one speed leaves the other unchanged.
After fine-tuning, measure both 33⅓ and 45 RPM. If one speed is correct but the other remains noticeably wrong, send both sets of readings to support.
Do not keep alternating large adjustments to correct one speed at the expense of the other.
Q: What if the rear knob cannot correct the speed?
First confirm the selected speed, belt installation, and repeatability of your measurements.
If the speed remains consistently wrong, contact support. Further motor-speed adjustment may require access through the bottom of the turntable.
Request the ICE1-specific reference video before attempting any internal adjustment. Do not use another turntable model’s screw locations, turning direction, or disassembly procedure.
Only proceed if support confirms that the procedure applies to your unit and you can follow it safely. Otherwise, arrange service.
Q: The average speed is close to the target, but the music wavers. What should I check?
A correct average speed does not rule out short-term speed variation, sometimes called wow and flutter. You may hear sustained notes rise and fall in pitch.
- Try several records, especially one known to play correctly on another system.
- Check that the turntable is level.
- Disconnect power and inspect the belt installation against the ICE1 guide.
- Check that the platter is seated evenly and is not rubbing against anything.
- Observe whether the record’s tonearm movement repeats from side to side once per revolution.
An off-centre record can produce audible pitch variation even when platter speed is steady.
Do not use the speed knob to chase a repeated rise and fall in pitch. The knob is for correcting overall speed, not diagnosing every source of variation.
Q: Why does only one record sound off-speed?
Check that record’s label first, then try another record at the same selected speed.
If the problem occurs on only one record or one side, it may relate to that record’s pressing, centre hole, or condition rather than the turntable’s overall speed.
Do not adjust the ICE1 to correct one unusual record if other records play normally.
Q: Why did the speed change after fitting or reinstalling the belt?
An incorrectly fitted, twisted, contaminated, or unsuitable belt can affect rotation.
Disconnect power and check the belt’s route against the ICE1 installation guide. Make sure it is seated correctly and the platter is fitted evenly.
Do not apply oil, stretch the belt, or use an unconfirmed replacement size. Contact support if the belt repeatedly slips out of position.
Q: Why does the platter slow down, struggle to start, or stop?
This is different from a small, consistent speed error.
Check the supplied power adapter and inspect the belt installation with power disconnected. Look for anything visibly obstructing the platter.
Do not compensate by turning the fine-adjustment knob to its limit. If the platter struggles to rotate or repeatedly stops, discontinue testing and contact support.
Q: Can Bluetooth make the platter run too fast or too slow?
Bluetooth audio problems and mechanical platter-speed problems need separate checks.
Measure the platter speed first. If rotation is steady but sound cuts out, breaks up, or becomes distorted only over Bluetooth, investigate the wireless connection rather than adjusting motor speed.
If possible, compare playback through a correctly configured RCA connection.
Q: There is a delay before I hear sound through Bluetooth. Is the speed wrong?
A delay between the stylus touching the record and sound coming from the speaker does not, by itself, indicate incorrect RPM.
Wireless audio processing can introduce a delay. Check platter speed separately if the music also sounds consistently sharp, flat, fast, or slow.
Do not adjust the speed knob simply to remove a Bluetooth playback delay.
Q: Should I adjust tracking force to correct speed?
No. Tracking force must match the recommendation for the installed cartridge. It is not a speed control.
If the turntable slows noticeably when the stylus touches the record, lift the stylus and verify the tonearm setup. Contact support if the problem continues after correct setup.
Do not add weight to the cartridge or reduce tracking force below its recommendation to make the speed reading look better.
Q: Can I check speed without placing a phone on the platter?
Yes. A suitable strobe disc and correctly matched strobe light can provide an alternative check without adding the phone’s weight.
The disc must match the selected speed and the light’s specified flashing frequency. Ordinary household LED lighting is not automatically suitable.
Ask support for an appropriate test method if you cannot position a phone safely.
Q: When should I stop adjusting and contact support?
Contact support if:
- The rear knob cannot bring the speed close to the selected target.
- One speed remains wrong after the other is corrected.
- Speed repeatedly drifts after adjustment.
- The platter slows, struggles to start, or stops.
- You hear scraping or other unusual mechanical noise.
- The knob has no apparent effect or reaches its travel limit.
- You are being asked to access internal motor adjustments without an ICE1-specific guide.
Q: What should I send support for a speed problem?
Please include your order number, the app and phone model used, and screenshots of repeated measurements at both speeds.
Also provide:
- A photo of the record label and selected speed.
- A short video showing platter rotation and the issue.
- Whether the problem affects one record or several.
- Whether it occurs through Bluetooth, RCA, or both.
- Whether you adjusted the rear knob and how the readings changed.
- Whether the belt was recently removed or replaced.
Do not open the bottom cover before support confirms the appropriate next step.
Q: What is the easiest way to connect my ICE1 to an audio system?
For troubleshooting, a wired RCA connection is usually the simplest starting point because it avoids Bluetooth pairing and wireless interference.
Match the ICE1’s rear switch to the input on your audio equipment:
- AUX, CD, AUDIO IN, or LINE IN: select LINE on the ICE1.
- A compatible PHONO input: select PHONO on the ICE1.
- Passive speaker terminals: do not connect directly. A speaker amplifier is required.
Switch off both devices before connecting cables. Select the matching input on your audio equipment, start with the volume low, and then test a record.
Q: Why won’t my Bluetooth speaker or amplifier connect?
First, check whether the device can receive Bluetooth audio. Some amplifiers use Bluetooth only to send sound to headphones. That transmitting mode cannot receive music from the ICE1.
Try these steps in order:
- Turn on the speaker or amplifier and select its Bluetooth audio-receiving mode.
- Put it into pairing mode. Simply turning Bluetooth on may not make it discoverable.
- Disconnect it from your phone, tablet, TV, or other audio source. Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on those devices if they keep reconnecting.
- Place the speaker or amplifier close to the ICE1 for the pairing test.
- Enable Bluetooth using the switch on the back of the ICE1.
- Allow the devices time to connect. The ICE1 has no Bluetooth indicator light, so check the receiving device for a connection message or sound, if available.
- Play a record at low volume to test the connection.
If pairing still fails, restart both devices and repeat the process. Do not use another brand’s “hold the Bluetooth button” reset procedure on the ICE1.
Send support the exact speaker or amplifier model if the problem continues.
Q: My phone connects to the amplifier. Why doesn’t the ICE1?
A phone connection is useful information, but it does not confirm that another Bluetooth source will pair successfully.
The amplifier may still be connected to your phone, may need a fresh pairing process, or may have model-specific compatibility requirements.
Disconnect the phone completely, select the amplifier’s Bluetooth receiving source, and start a new pairing attempt. If it still fails, try the ICE1 with another compatible Bluetooth speaker or headphones, if available.
Tell support whether the second device connects successfully. This helps narrow down the issue without assuming either product is faulty.
Q: How do I connect to a Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Onkyo, or Sony receiver?
Start by checking the exact receiver model and the labels on its rear inputs. Features differ between models, even within the same brand.
For a wired connection:
- If using a compatible PHONO input, set the ICE1 to PHONO.
- If using AUX, CD, or another analogue line-level input, set the ICE1 to LINE.
- Select that input as the receiver’s listening source.
- Check that the receiver is not muted and that the intended speaker output is active.
- Start playback with the volume low.
For Bluetooth, confirm that the receiver supports receiving audio from an external Bluetooth source. A Bluetooth headphone-transmission feature is not the same function.
If you cannot pair wirelessly, use an available analogue input to test playback before requesting service.
Q: Why won’t my ICE1 pair with a Denon AVR-X1800H?
Disconnect any phone or other source already connected to the receiver. Follow the receiver’s instructions to enter Bluetooth receiving and pairing mode, then enable Bluetooth on the ICE1.
If the connection still fails, do not assume repeated attempts at shorter distances will resolve it. Test through a suitable analogue input, if available, and try a second Bluetooth receiving device.
Contact support with the results of both tests.
Q: How do I connect my ICE1 to Sonos?
Identify the exact Sonos product first. Sonos products do not all have the same Bluetooth or line-in capabilities.
There are two possible connection routes:
- Bluetooth: use a Sonos model that supports Bluetooth audio reception and follow its Bluetooth pairing instructions.
- Wired: use a Sonos product with a supported analogue line-in connection, including any adapter required for that model. Set the ICE1 to LINE.
Do not assume that a product appearing in the Sonos app is ready to receive Bluetooth audio from the ICE1. Check its supported connection method and selected source.
Send support the full Sonos model name before purchasing cables or adapters.
Q: Sonos says the ICE1 is connected, but the sound is distorted. What should I check?
First confirm that the sound you are hearing is coming from the record playing on the ICE1.
Then work through these checks:
- Try two or three clean records to see whether the distortion affects every record.
- Inspect the stylus for dust or visible damage.
- Confirm that the tonearm and tracking force were set correctly.
- Move the devices closer together and away from obvious sources of wireless interference.
- If possible, test the ICE1 through a correctly configured wired connection or another Bluetooth speaker.
If wired playback also sounds distorted, the issue may not be limited to Bluetooth. If wired playback is clear but the Sonos connection is not, tell support that distinction.
Do not increase tracking force or replace the cartridge simply because Bluetooth audio sounds distorted.
Q: How do I connect to JBL, Bose, Sony, Marshall, or Ultimate Ears Bluetooth speakers?
Check the speaker’s exact model and put it into Bluetooth pairing mode using its own controls.
Disconnect any existing phone or tablet connection, then enable Bluetooth on the ICE1. Keep the devices close together during the initial test.
If the speaker reconnects to your phone automatically, temporarily turn off Bluetooth on the phone and try again.
For a speaker group or multi-speaker setup, first test with one speaker on its own. Grouping and stereo-pair functions are controlled by the speaker system and should not be assumed to work directly with the turntable.
Q: How do I connect to Edifier, Audioengine, Kanto, or Klipsch powered speakers?
For a wired connection, check the input label rather than choosing the setting by speaker brand.
- Connect to AUX, LINE IN, or a normal RCA line input with the ICE1 set to LINE.
- Connect to a compatible dedicated PHONO input with the ICE1 set to PHONO.
- Select the matching input on the speakers.
- Make sure the powered speaker has its own power connection and that the left/right speaker connection is correctly fitted, where required.
Some powered speakers also offer Bluetooth. Select Bluetooth explicitly when testing wireless playback, rather than leaving the speakers on their RCA or optical input.
Q: Can I connect the ICE1 to a soundbar?
Only if the soundbar has a compatible audio input.
For Bluetooth, it must support receiving Bluetooth audio. For a wired connection, it needs a compatible analogue input, such as AUX or line-in.
An RCA-to-HDMI cable or RCA-to-optical cable alone does not convert the ICE1’s analogue audio into a digital signal. Soundbars with only HDMI or optical inputs require a suitable active conversion solution, which should be checked for compatibility before purchase.
Send support the soundbar model and a photo of its inputs before buying an adapter.
Q: Can I connect the ICE1 to a Wi-Fi smart speaker?
Wi-Fi connectivity does not necessarily mean the speaker can receive Bluetooth audio or accept an analogue line input.
Check the exact speaker’s supported inputs. A speaker that relies only on its own Wi-Fi streaming system cannot be assumed to accept the ICE1 directly.
Do not buy an adapter until the full connection path has been confirmed.
Q: The RCA cable is connected, but there is no sound. What should I check?
Work through these checks in order:
- Confirm that the cable runs from the ICE1’s output to an input on the speaker or amplifier, not to another output such as REC OUT.
- Match the ICE1’s PHONO/LINE setting to the receiving input.
- Select the corresponding listening source on the audio equipment.
- Check mute, volume, and any speaker-output selection.
- Confirm that the stylus guard is removed and the stylus is resting in the record groove.
- Switch off the equipment and reseat both RCA plugs.
- If available, test another compatible RCA cable.
Do not turn the amplifier to maximum while searching for the signal. Correcting the connection could suddenly produce loud sound.
Q: What should I send support if my audio system still won’t connect?
Please include:
- Your order number.
- The full speaker or amplifier model, not just the brand.
- Whether you are using Bluetooth or RCA.
- A photo showing the ICE1’s rear switches and connections.
- A photo of the input used on the speaker or amplifier.
- For Bluetooth, whether the receiving device confirms a connection.
- Whether another speaker, cable, or connection method works.
A short video showing these details is often more useful than a video of the record spinning alone.
Q: Why is the platter not spinning?
Check that the supplied power adapter is securely connected and the speed selector is set for playback. Move the tonearm from its rest toward the record’s starting position.
If the platter still does not rotate, disconnect power and check the belt against the installation guide. Do not force the platter or open the turntable’s housing.
Contact support with a video showing the power connection, speed setting, and tonearm movement.
Q: Why is the platter spinning but there is no sound?
Check that your speakers or amplifier are powered on, the correct input is selected, and the volume is set to a low but audible level.
For RCA playback, check the cable connections and PHONO/LINE setting. For Bluetooth playback, confirm that the receiving device is connected to the ICE1 rather than another source.
Also check that the stylus guard is removed and the stylus is actually contacting the record.
Q: Why is the sound very quiet through RCA?
Check whether the turntable is set to PHONO while connected to a line-level input. For AUX, CD, or LINE IN, select LINE on the ICE1.
Lower the volume before changing settings, then test again.
Q: Why is the sound extremely loud or distorted through RCA?
Check whether LINE output is connected to a PHONO input. This can apply phono amplification twice.
Lower the volume, switch off the equipment, and either select PHONO for the PHONO input or use LINE with a suitable line-level input.
Q: Why can I hear only one channel?
Switch off the equipment and check that both RCA plugs are fully inserted. Inspect the cable and plugs for damage.
If possible, test with another compatible RCA cable. Do not pull on the small cartridge wires. Contact support if the problem continues.
Q: What should I do if an RCA plug breaks inside a socket?
Switch off and unplug the turntable. Do not insert another plug, push the broken piece farther inside, or attempt to remove it with metal tools.
Take a clear photo of the affected socket and contact support before further use.
Q: Why do I hear humming, buzzing, or feedback?
Check the cable connections and the PHONO/LINE setting first. Keep audio cables away from power adapters where practical.
If the noise increases strongly as you raise the volume, move the speakers farther from the turntable or onto a separate surface. Speaker vibration may be feeding back into the stylus.
If the problem remains, tell support whether it happens with RCA, Bluetooth, or both.
Q: How should I clean the acrylic body and dust cover?
Switch off and unplug the turntable. Remove loose dust gently before wiping, since rubbing grit across the surface can cause scratches.
Use a clean, soft microfiber cloth and only cleaning products suitable for acrylic. Avoid paper towels, abrasive cleaners, and unapproved solvents. Do not spray liquid directly onto the turntable.
Q: How should I clean the stylus?
Switch off the turntable and keep the tonearm supported. Use a stylus-cleaning method approved for your installed cartridge, following the cleaner’s instructions.
Do not touch the tip, bend the cantilever, scrub sideways, or apply household cleaning products. If you are unsure which cleaner is suitable, contact support before using it.
Q: How can I reduce dust and crackling during playback?
Keep records in their sleeves when not in use, handle them by the edges, and clean them using suitable record-care products.
Keep the stylus clean and close the dust cover when the turntable is not in use. Some noise may come from static or record wear, so compare more than one clean record before assuming the turntable is faulty.
Q: How should I move or pack the turntable?
Switch off and unplug the equipment, remove the record, secure the tonearm, and protect the stylus.
For shipping, request the ICE1 packing instructions before boxing it. Components such as the platter and counterweight may need separate protection. Do not assume the original shipping arrangement can be replaced by simply wrapping the assembled turntable.
