Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Retrolife SY101 Turntable and Speaker Combo.
  • No. The SY101 turntable has a built in phono preamp and built in amplification for the included speakers. Connect the included external speakers to the turntable, set the tracking force, and you can start playing vinyl without a separate amplifier or phono preamp.

  • The SY101 includes two 18W passive stereo speakers. The turntable has a built in amplifier, so the included speakers connect directly to the Speaker Output Terminals on the back of the turntable and do not require a separate amplifier or receiver.

To connect the speakers, connect the left and right speaker wires to the corresponding Speaker Output Terminals on the back of the turntable, matching the positive and negative connections correctly.

For the included speakers, set the PHONO/LINE switch to LINE. The LINE setting enables the turntable's built in phono preamp for standard line level output.

The PHONO/LINE switch is mainly used when connecting the SY101's RCA output to external audio equipment. Select LINE when connecting to standard LINE or AUX inputs, and select PHONO when connecting to a receiver or amplifier with a dedicated PHONO input or to an external phono preamp.

For the included SY101 speakers, use LINE mode. No separate amplifier or receiver is required.

  • Both are belt drive turntable systems with external stereo speakers, built in phono preamps, adjustable counterweights, AT3600L MM cartridges, USB recording, and Auto Stop.

The main differences are speaker power and Bluetooth connectivity. The SY101 includes 2 × 18W external speakers and Bluetooth input, while the UD006 includes 2 × 20W speakers with Bluetooth input and output.

Choose the SY101 if you want a straightforward external speaker system for vinyl playback and streaming music from your phone.

Choose the UD006 if you want higher speaker output and the flexibility to transmit vinyl audio to compatible Bluetooth headphones or speakers.

  • The SY101 supports Bluetooth input, allowing you to stream music wirelessly from a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or other compatible Bluetooth device through the SY101 speaker system.

The SY101 does not support Bluetooth output, so it cannot transmit vinyl playback to Bluetooth headphones or speakers.

  • The SY101 supports 7 inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch vinyl records at 33 1/3 and 45 RPM.

It does not support 78 RPM records.

  • The SY101 uses an Audio-Technica AT3600L MM cartridge with a recommended tracking force of 3.5 ± 0.5g. The adjustable counterweight allows you to properly balance the tonearm and set the recommended tracking force.

When properly balanced and used with a clean, undamaged stylus and records in good condition, the SY101 is designed for normal vinyl playback. Proper tracking force, tonearm setup, record condition, and stylus condition all affect tracking performance and record wear.

The included stylus is replaceable, allowing you to replace it when it becomes worn.

  • Yes. The SY101 has an Auto Stop function that stops the platter from spinning near the end of a record.

However, it is a manual turntable, so the tonearm does not automatically lift or return to its rest position. After playback finishes, manually lift and return the tonearm to its rest.

  • If the stylus skips, slides, or jumps, first make sure the turntable is placed on a stable, level surface and the tonearm is properly balanced. For the included AT3600L cartridge, set the tracking force to the recommended 3.5 ± 0.5g.

If the stylus repeatedly skips in the same spot, check the record for scratches, warping, dust, or pressing imperfections and try another record. If the stylus slides toward the center of the record, recheck the tonearm balance and tracking force, and make sure the stylus and cartridge are securely installed.

If skipping happens when the speakers are playing loudly or the turntable is touched, move the speakers farther away and place the turntable on a stable surface to reduce vibration.

If the problem occurs with multiple clean records after the tonearm and tracking force have been correctly adjusted, the stylus or turntable may require further inspection. Please contact Retrolife Support for assistance.

Delighted beyond words

The turntable arrived promptly and was easy to set up. Have been enjoying listening to LPs every day since.
Good quality sound and looks great too. Only “issue” was space needed to open dust cover required more depth than the turntable base so i needed a different location than originally planned.

My husband and I are 58 years old. We grew up together and our childhood and teen years were spent listening to records. We kept them all and are now so happy we did! Who'd have guessed that the vinyl record player would make a comeback?! HOW COOL! But this sure is different from the ones we had when we were kids. Of course, Bluetooth didn't even exist then; what a great option for this to have. The speaker quality is fantastic - the sound is rich in tone and crystal clear. It's so fun to reminisce with all of our old albums and 45s. LOVE THIS!

OMG....I just set up my record player and am impressed! I grew up playing records with my parents/grandparents and wanted to buy one for a while and am very happy with this purchase! ! Great sound, easy to set up, definitely recommend it to anyone and a great gift. It doesn't take up much space. I only have one record because I refuse to buy new ones, so finding those great old records is a great entrepreneurial hobby! ! !

My old turntable broke and I couldn't find the drive belt anymore, so I found this, very good specs and decided to give it a shot. I was not disappointed, this one works great. First of all, amazing quality, very easy to assemble, and the sound is amazing. The instructions are excellent, it was quick to set up, the pictures are all about what needs to be done to get started, and I'm very impressed with these. The current speakers are really good. Good highs, mids and bass with absolutely no distortion or a hint of noise.

Love this turntable, it looks great in a room nice enough to decorate and sounds great. I have received a lot of compliments from friends and neighbors who want to buy their stuff there. The bluetooth works great and I love being able to play it from my phone when I want to listen to one of my records I also love playing podcasts on it while I'm cooking. I think the player is loud enough that I can hear it well in other rooms, but my husband would prefer to buy some other speakers, but I think this record player already fits my needs well enough that we want it to be louder.

I'm 70 years old and I bought this turntable to preserve my records. I still have a lot of 33 albums that I can close the cover as it plays. The auto-off feature is fine. The player is very lightweight so you can move it around as needed. I used it at a party and my friends were blown away by the sound quality! The lift arm slowly lowers the arm. The sound is good. I give retrolife 5 stars for the quality and price of this record player.

This is a great turntable for beginners. We originally bought it first as a decoration and second as a functional record player. It achieves goal 1 perfectly (very nice wood aesthetic), it's easy to use, and we've now fully delved into the vinyl world. We're working on a couple of albums and can't wait to hear them on this awesome little device. While the quality of the speaker is not necessarily better than that of a high-end bluetooth soundbar, it does a great job of conveying the vinyl quality, everything is so good, I also bought another record player from retrolife expecting it to come with Surprise me!

My dad has an amazing collection of '70s prog, rock, and more, and as far as I know, he hasn't had a turntable in years. He's single and doesn't have many hobbies as he gets older, so I decided to buy this for him because listening to some of his old favorites will help him keep his head up (I also hope one day he'll put his record Favorites to me). I helped him with this setup in the past. The speakers are connected to the turntable. From there, you can adjust the revs and more. My dad told me that while the video I shot didn't quite do sound justice, it's fair to say the speakers sounded great and the turntable worked flawlessly. The retro look is also great. Overall, this thing offers great value for over $200. The functionality is simple and sounds great. Whether you're looking to get your hands on vinyl, or you're a long-time fan like my dad, this one is sure to be easy to recommend!

This turntable is amazing. I have a whole bunch of records from my childhood, but it got damaged a few years ago. This is a very good price for all the features it includes. It has bluetooth capabilities like you've never seen in a turntable. It has radio which is really great when you need a change. Of course, when playing the record, the sound quality was great, it was perfect for our booth, and it didn't take up too much space. This would also make a great gift for anyone with a record collection. Especially when the price is very reasonable.

I received this turntable yesterday and couldn't wait to play it, so I put it together right away. I was a little nervous to set it up myself, following retrolife's setup video it only took me about 20 minutes and it actually helped me see how easy it would be to take care of it in the future! The speakers clip together in seconds, twisting the weight onto the arm. But I have to say, these speakers that come with this new device are incredible. The sound is so clear and crisp that no matter how high you turn it, there is no reverb or reverb. I think it also has something to do with the heavy plate that the record spins. I don't think I've seen one this thick before, it makes a huge difference in sound quality.
If you're in the market for something new to play your vinyl records, this is it. I can't recommend it enough! Please do it yourself!

The turntables at retrolife are really awesome. Belt driven, does not transmit vibrations from the motor to the needle. Felt pads are stylish and simple. The arms are all manual but easy to calibrate and feature non-slip weights and lift arms. The speakers are apartment-sized, so the built-in amplifier is sufficient. The pins are the best quality per dollar, and unless you buy an external amp and bigger speakers, the upgrade is useless. It's not a "room thump," but you know it before you see the speaker and read this review. It's the perfect apartment-sized turntable that gives the illusion of bass through its tight hits, but you won't bother your neighbors or roommates. You can be an elegant owner of this turntable, the most affordable turntable I've seen, offering the best sound quality. If you plan to upgrade your speakers, you should get a different tabletop or external amplifier.

I'm not a vinyl fan, but my wife is in love with vinyl. Until her old turntable had speed and tracking issues. I've been wanting to replace her turntable but didn't know what to buy and then I saw this. Aside from the functionality, I only bought it for the looks. This is a very retro record player. Only later did I find out how high quality it was. I want to surprise her. I'm a little nervous about doing this. As I said, I don't know much about them or setting them up properly. so easy! I got it set up and spinning in less than 10 minutes. My wife loves it. I understand now why she likes vinyl so much. The sound is amazing. These speakers are loud and rich. Just a week later, I'm collecting my favorite vinyl records, hahaha. Really so good! One of the best parts of it is the Bluetooth connection. If it doesn't have what you want to hear on vinyl, that's fine. Just tap the mode button and connect your phone. This set is a combination of classic and technology. I will buy again!

If you love vinyl but don't have anything to play, buy this stereo. Nice to hear the crackle you hear from the vinyl. Sure, digital music is great for on-the-go and a lot less expensive than rebuilding your youthful collection, but there's something about picking a favorite album from your collection and putting it on the player. The unit connects seamlessly to my phone, it's a solid vinyl player, and I love it.

I love this vinyl player. This player exceeded my expectations, it played very clearly. It's amazing how great the sound quality is. Not even a single skip/swipe on my worst record. 100% worth putting money into this product. The bluetooth works great, but the only downside is that the range isn't amazing, but I bought it to play records, so I have no complaints. Amazing product. Not only does it look great, but it also sounds great! Listening to this song, it sounds like you are hearing music for the first time. The sound quality is very clear, and there is no noise no matter how loud it is played. I think it's great for audiophiles too.

Michelle K.

My bluetooth sound. Is much louder than my record sound. Is that normal or am I not doing something correctly?

Retrolife Official Store

Thanks for reaching out. Since Bluetooth audio is much louder than the vinyl playback, the issue may be related to the stylus installation or the stylus itself.

Please try the following:
Turn off the turntable and check the stylus on the tonearm.
Make sure the stylus is installed correctly and securely.
Check if the stylus tip is damaged, bent, or covered with dust.
Try playing another record to compare the volume.

If the issue continues, please send us a photo of the stylus/cartridge area and let us know your turntable model. We will help check it for you.
